Mental Health & Well-Being
Cooking Therapy for Mental Health is applied to individuals (children, teenagers, adults), families, and age-specific groups.
Using cooking as a vehicle and employing techniques from neuro-linguistic programming and systemic approaches, it creates an environment where participants open new perspectives, express themselves creatively, and reflect on their experiences. Cooking becomes a bridge that connects their inner world with the external reality. This alignment significantly contributes to enhancing mental health.
How it works
Cooking Therapy sessions, whether individual or group, begin with a discussion where participants have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. They then proceed to the cooking activity, where they prepare recipes specifically chosen for the central theme concerning the individual or the group.
Each recipe and each step of the process encourage mindfulness, concentration, and self-awareness. The session concludes with a reflection on the cooking experience and its connection to the initial topics discussed.
Benefits
-
Self-Awareness: The cooking process promotes self-reflection and the discovery of deeper emotions.
-
Focus and Mindfulness: Concentrating on the simple, everyday actions involved in cooking fosters mindfulness and enhances mental focus.
-
Development of Boundary Setting and Problem-Solving Skills: By using a variety of ingredients and recipes in cooking, participants practically understand the limits and challenges that arise, as well as alternative solutions for addressing them. This process helps them develop strategic thinking and problem-solving skills that they can transfer and apply in their daily lives.
-
Boosting Self-Care: Preparing nutritious meals becomes a form of self-care that directly supports mental well-being.
